ABOUT SCOUTING

Chartered by an act of the United States Congress, the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America supports more than 275 local area councils in all 50 states that provide quality youth development programs through the following:

Cub ScoutsCub Scouts is a year-round family- and home-centered program that develops ethical decision-making skills for boys & girls in the second through fifth grade (or who are 7, 8, 9 and 10 years old). Activities emphasize character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness.

Younger Cub Scouts participate as Tiger Cubs, a year-round family- and home-centered program that encourages the ethical decision-making skills for first-grade (or 6 years old). These children participate in the program with their adult partners. The program emphasizes shared leadership, learning about the community, and family understanding.

Older Cub Scouts participate as Webelos Scouts, a year-round family- and home-centered program that develops ethical decision-making skills for fourth- and fifth-grade (or 10 years old). Webelos Scouts participate in more advanced activities that begin to prepare them to enter the hallmark program now known as Scouts BSA.

 

Boy ScoutingScouts BSA is a year-round program of achievement for boys and girls age 11 to 17. Through the Scouts BSA program, young people can achieve the core objectives of strengthening character, personal fitness and good citizenship.

 

VenturingVenturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are around 14 through 20 years of age with a concentration on high adventure activities of all kinds. Each Venturing Crew plans and participate in activities specific to the goals of the youth in each crew. Venturing's purpose is prepare young people to become responsible and caring adults.

 

Sea Scouting is a program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 13 through 20 years of age with a concentration on aquatics, boating skills, water safety, etc. Sea Scout units, called "Ships" focus on sailing and cruising either sailboats or power vessels.
