Do you have a passion for science, technology, engineering or mathematics?  Have you ever wanted to pass that passion and wonder along to your kids?  The San Francisco Bay Area Council can help you do that at our STEM Encampment!

We need you to lead laboratory sessions and activity stations for Cub, Boy and Venture Scouts and their siblings at the Encampment on October 11th!  We will have tons of fun during this one-day, all-out extravaganza.

Laboratory sessions will include learning the scientific method through hands-on simple experiments appropriate to each age group, brainstorming, asking the youth to explain their reasoning and answers, guiding them when necessary, and encouraging them when they stumble.

Sessions will be broken into different tracks according to the letters of STEM.  Each track will have specific lab activities associated with it, and a script will be provided to help the station leader guide the youth through the activity.  The lab time will be in 1-hour blocks for Cub Scouts, and 2-3 hour blocks for Boy Scouts and Ventures.  At the end of each block, the youth will change stations and you will have a new group of youth at your station.

We are in need of volunteers, aged 16 and up, with current Youth Protection and to lead groups of 10 or fewer youth in science, technology, engineering and math labs at the STEM Encampment this fall.

Youth Protection training is available on-line at https://myscouting.scouting.org

Volunteers will be required to attend training for ½ day on Saturday, September 20th.

STEM Encampment will be all day, from 7:30am to 6:00pm on Saturday, October 11th, 2014.

Volunteers will be given a t-shirt and breaks throughout the day.  Food will be available for purchase on-site.

If you have a particular leaning toward a “track” please give a short explanation of your experience, training, or hobby that will make you the perfect fit!
