Fifty years ago this summer a relatively small group of campers gathered for the first ever summer camp experience at Wente Scout Reservation. Fifty summers ago, the lake was only half full, there was no dining hall and the only cabin in camp was the “Chalet,” an old logging cabin left over from the previous owners. In 1964 no one had heard of King Skunk, hiked the Kali-ama trail, or earned Cedar Savage. Since then over 50,000 scouts & scouters, and more than 1,200 staff members have camped beneath the stars and walked the moonlit trails of the camp.
In celebration of this golden anniversary, a special event is being held at Wente to commemorate the 50th anniversary. Come join us this summer for a day of celebration, reflection and letting the lake be the key to jogging your camp memories of past.
The camp will be open for tours, bring your family to swim and play in the lake, or take out a boat or Kayak. Hike the Kaliama trail or visit the many exciting areas in camp. Bring your fishing gear and try to catch that illusive 12 lb big-mouth bass that is lurking near the dam. You can enjoy the miles and miles of hiking trails or a stop by the Ye-old trading post for a variety of ice cream, candy and other snack items as well as Wente Scout Reservation merchandise. A Saturday night campfire will serve as your blast to the past as we relive many of the old skits and songs from yesteryear.
Stay and spend the night under the stars. Like most national, state, or private campgrounds, we have tent sites. You have the option to use our camp tents or you can bring your own. ALL sites are assigned when you arrive at camp. Large groups of 50 or more wishing to camp together can be assigned a site in advance otherwise all accommodations are first come, first served upon arrival at camp. Hot showers and restrooms are nearby each of the campsites. Please note: As summer camp will still be in full operation, the meadow area and the RV Trailer site will not be available for camping.
Dates are July 26-27 2014:
Camp opens at 11:00 AM on Saturday for check in, please do not arrive earlier as we will still be in the process of checking troops out of camp. Checkin will be at the Trading Post
